Recently, I attended a peaceful evening hour of prayer and worship at my church. Sometimes when I am experiencing God’s Presence, He gives me pictures in my mind that reveal something He is showing me. Some people would label these pictures as visions. I'm not sure about that, for I am not seeing these with physical eyes, but in my mind.
During that prayer service, here’s what I sensed.
Mental pictures started coming to me as we sang a song with a phrase about how Jesus tore the veil. I had a mental picture of the huge, thick temple veil being ripped apart, but not by human hands. (This happened at the moment Jesus died on the cross.)
Matthew 57:50-52
And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. Then behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split, and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised. NKJV
Then I pictured hundreds of people with spiritual veils over their eyes, which were blinding them to the truth of who Jesus Christ is. They did not realize that His resurrection proves He is who He claimed to be: God.
I also pictured a veil of darkness covering the earth, a veil of sin. People lost their way in that darkness, and sin blinded them. Stumbling about, they wandered.
Then, my mental picture shifted to another group of people. They believed in Jesus but did not believe that He still performs miracles through His followers today. A veil of unbelief covered their spiritual eyes. Therefore, they were not experiencing the power of God to the extent He wanted them to.
Sadly, I saw another type of blinding veil afflicting many who had put their faith in Jesus in the past. It was a veil of deception, entangling them in false beliefs that hampered their spiritual growth or led them away from intimacy with Jesus.
These pictures were a call to prayer.
As I have pondered these visionary pictures, I sense that we should pray earnestly to see veils supernaturally torn from the eyes of those the Lord leads us to pray for, and that we ourselves do not fall prey to these veils.
Prayer, mixed with faith in Jesus Christ, is so powerful that it can tear away spiritual blindness from people. The light of Jesus Christ brings the truth of His Word about who He is. It also breaks the darkness of sin, bringing freedom, peace, and joy to those who receive Jesus into their lives and ask His forgiveness for their sins.
Also, we can pray that those who do not believe that Jesus does miracles today will have that veil of unbelief torn away by revelation through God's Word and the Holy Spirit and by seeing and experiencing His miracles.
We can also pray for ourselves and others not to be deceived into believing things that are not supported by Scripture. We all need revelation from the Holy Spirit to keep us from falling into false beliefs or actions that pull us away from Jesus. Let’s also pray that followers of Christ will study God's Word to discover God's teachings and better hear His voice.
2 Corinthians 3:16 Nevertheless, when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. NKJV
Acts 26:17-18 …to whom I now send you, to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me. NKJV
